In a significant advancement for Omanโ€™s mining sector, Minerals Development Oman (MDO) has signed a crucial mining concession agreement with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM). This agreement authorizes MDO to explore and develop strategic minerals within concession area 51F, located in the Al Wusta Governorate, covering an extensive 2,156 square kilometers in the Wilayat of Mahout. The area is rich in high-value deposits of silica, limestone, and dolomite, which are vital for driving industrial growth and economic diversification in Oman.

The increasing demand for silica, particularly from industries such as glass manufacturing and renewable energy technologies, has positioned MDO to become Omanโ€™s first silica sand miner. According to a Syndicated Analytics Report, the GCC silica sand market is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 6.7%, reaching an estimated $513.5 million by 2027. Preliminary studies indicate that the site holds significant reserves of silica ore with purity levels exceeding 97%.
