At the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, PT PLN (Persero), Indonesiaโs state-owned electricity company, highlighted its efforts to support Indonesia’s transition to clean energy. The company is committed to expanding solar energy and contributing to the nationโs sustainable energy future. PLNโs Director General, Darmawan Prasodjo, emphasized the importance of leadership under President Prabowo Subianto in helping Indonesia become self-sufficient in energy.
Prasodjo reaffirmed PLNโs commitment to providing affordable, efficient green energy while driving economic growth of up to 8%. This reflects Indonesia’s ambition to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability through a major energy transformation. Prasodjo stressed the need for collaboration in investment, technology, and regulation to speed up the development of renewable energy in Indonesia. He also noted that renewable energy development would not only maximize the countryโs energy potential but also support industrial growth and create more jobs.
PLN is determined to increase the share of renewable energy in its generation capacity by 75% by 2040. To achieve this, PLN will need to build a strong transmission network that can connect clean energy sources to areas with high electricity demand. In preparation for COP29, PLN invited global stakeholders to join efforts in developing key infrastructure in Indonesia, including the Green Enabling Super Grid. This grid would enable renewable energy sources scattered across the country to meet growing demand and support clean energy-based economic development.
Prasodjo concluded that climate change is a global challenge that requires global collaboration. He emphasized that PLN cannot tackle this issue alone, and the only way to fight climate change is through joint efforts across the world.
