HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), presided over the Councilโs 85th meeting, held virtually. The session brought together prominent officials, including HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Council, and HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the DSCE.
The meeting also featured key board members, including HE Dawood Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality; HE Abdulla bin Kalban, Managing Director of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA); HE Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC); Juan-Pablo Freile, General Manager of Dubai Petroleum; and Muna Alosaimi, CEO of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at the RTA.
Focus on Petroleum Trading and Cooling Systems
The Council reviewed critical topics such as the regulation of petroleum products trading and district cooling services. The discussions included an evaluation of the Executive Council Resolution on Regulating the Trading of Petroleum Products, which has enhanced safety measures and compliance within the industry.
District cooling services, supervised by the Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau for Electricity and Water (RSB), were another focal point. These systems, praised for their energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions compared to traditional methods, are a key component of Dubaiโs green energy agenda.
Commitment to Carbon Neutrality
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer highlighted Dubaiโs commitment to becoming a carbon-neutral economy by 2050, in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He emphasized the role of governance systems established under Executive Council Resolution No. 16 of 2019, which regulates the petroleum derivatives sector and strengthens Dubaiโs leadership in sustainable growth.
โOur discussions extended to executive procedures for regulating district cooling services, aiming to enhance the relationship between providers and consumers in this vital sector,โ Al Tayer noted.
National Coordination for Sustainable Growth
HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi outlined the Councilโs strategic action plans for regulating petroleum product trading. Collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and national oil companies have driven advancements in safety, quality standards, and market management practices.
โThis coordination marks a significant step towards comprehensive energy management and positions Dubai as a leader in clean energy and sustainable development,โ Al Muhairbi stated.
The meeting underscores Dubaiโs dedication to addressing climate change and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources, further cementing the emirateโs global leadership in the energy sector.
