Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission Teams Up With GEAPP To Drive Maharashtra Toward A Sustainable Energy Future

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has partnered with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) through a Statement of Intent (SoI) to drive Maharashtra’s energy transition. This collaboration focuses on innovative policies and regulations to promote renewable energy, ensure universal access to sustainable energy, and support inclusive growth. Building on GEAPP’s similar partnership with NITI Aayog, this initiative brings transformative solutions to the state level. MERC has already demonstrated leadership in regulatory advancements with recent measures like Resource Adequacy and Demand Flexibility regulations, aimed at improving grid stability and efficiency across Maharashtra.

The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) focuses on accelerating the shift to renewable energy by strengthening power grids and integrating affordable sources like solar and wind. It works to build sustainable energy systems by enhancing capacity, encouraging innovation, and developing scalable business models. The partnership with GEAPP will create opportunities for regulatory improvements aimed at lowering energy delivery costs and benefiting consumers. Key areas of focus include grid management, renewable energy integration, demand flexibility, energy efficiency, and tariff adjustments. By adopting global best practices, the collaboration will also develop expertise tailored to Maharashtra’s energy requirements, ensuring practical solutions for the state’s evolving needs.
