The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is extending a €25 million loan to Türkiye’s Garanti BBVA Leasing to support smaller businesses investing in green initiatives. These include projects aimed at improving energy efficiency, adopting renewable energy sources, and enhancing climate resilience. This funding is part of the EBRD’s Türkiye Green Economy Financing Facility, which aims to accelerate the country’s transition to a greener economy.

The project also incorporates a gender-focused support package. It includes a gender baseline assessment and awareness campaigns to promote equal access to climate finance for men and women, addressing challenges unique to each group. Tackling climate change is a key goal for Türkiye, which has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2053. Leasing companies play a vital role in expanding green financing, as they offer innovative financial options that help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) afford renewable energy systems, energy-efficient technologies, and low-carbon machinery.

Oksana Yavorskaya, The EBRD’s Deputy Head of Türkiye, said, “By bridging the financing gap for industries transitioning to green operations, leasing companies help accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices across sectors. We are happy to be partnering with a key player like Garanti BBVA Leasing to continue the great track record of our green financing frameworks.”

Selahattin Güldü, General Manager of Garanti BBVA Leasing, mentioned, “We are so glad to be adding a new facility to our longstanding relationship with the EBRD. The green loan we are receiving under the EBRD’s GEFF programme will be used to finance many energy-saving projects for SMEs in the country that attach importance to energy efficiency and want to invest in green and renewable energy.”

Founded in 1990, Garanti BBVA Leasing is a subsidiary of Garanti BBVA, one of Türkiye’s leading financial institutions. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is a major investor in Türkiye, having invested over €21 billion in 465 projects since 2009, primarily supporting the private sector.
