Voltalia has commenced construction of the Spitalla photovoltaic power plant in Albania. Located in the Durrรซs region on the Adriatic coast, just 50 kilometers from Tirana, the 100-megawatt plant will serve both public and private contracts. Of its capacity, 70 megawatts are allocated to a public contract awarded in 2021, while 30 megawatts will supply private-sector buyers. Once operational in the second half of 2027, Spitalla will generate enough electricity to power 150,000 residents annually while avoiding more than 18,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
This project builds on Voltaliaโs success with its Karavasta1 solar power plant, commissioned in December 2023. With a capacity of 140 megawatts, Karavasta1 is the largest solar plant in the Western Balkans and operates under a 30-year concession agreement. It prevents over 29,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to approximately 7% of Albania’s industrial sector emissions. Voltalia serves as the developer, builder, operator, and owner of both transformative renewable energy projects. โWe are proud to announce the launch of construction of Spitalla plant. This project highlights Voltaliaโs ongoing development and commitment in Albania, the countryโs leading solar producer and a long-standing pioneer in turnkey photovoltaic power plant construction. These initiatives showcase our ability to deliver projects that contribute to greener electricity production in Albania while bolstering the national economy with competitive electricity for both domestic and export marketsโ, said Sรฉbastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.
