Sembcorp Utilities, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, has announced the successful completion of its 588 MW Manah II solar project in the Ad Dakhiliyah governorate, achieving this milestone more than four months ahead of schedule.
The project, developed alongside Jinko Power, is part of Oman’s renewable energy expansion plans. Combined with the 512 MW Manah I project by Korea Western Power Co., the two installations will deliver a total solar capacity of 1 GW.
Sembcorp highlighted that Manah II is its first greenfield renewable energy development in the Middle East and its largest utility-scale solar farm worldwide. The project is backed by a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Nama Power and Water Procurement Co., Oman’s sole power and water procurement authority.
As of 2023, Oman had 672 MW of installed solar capacity, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The nation aims to increase renewables to 30% of its energy mix by 2030.
In line with this goal, Nama Power recently launched a tender for a 280 MW solar project, with a submission deadline set for February 3, 2025. The successful delivery of the Manah II project reflects Oman’s commitment to meeting its renewable energy targets and advancing its position in the region’s clean energy landscape.
