China is collaborating with African countries to establish the “Africa Solar Belt” program, aiming to support the continent’s green and low-carbon development, according to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Speaking to reporters after meeting with Republic of the Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso, Wang highlighted China’s ongoing commitment to addressing climate change in Africa.
Wang emphasized the importance of President Sassou’s focus on climate issues, noting it reflects the foresight of African leaders. He also pointed out that China has contributed significantly to Africa’s green energy sector, with over 1.5 GW of photovoltaic power plants installed across the continent, providing electricity to thousands of homes.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed a shared goal for China and Africa to pursue eco-friendly modernization, which was a central focus of Wang’s visit. The partnership is expected to promote clean energy initiatives under the Partnership Action for Green Development, which was outlined at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
Wang further stated that China would work with Africa to promote international climate governance and urged developed countries to fulfill their historical responsibilities. He called for financial, technical, and capacity-building support for developing nations, particularly those in Africa, to help address the climate crisis.
