Construction has begun on a large-scale solar project in Lincoln County, Nevada, where Bechtel has been chosen by Estuary Power to design and build a 226-megawatt direct current photovoltaic (PV) solar facility. The Escape Solar project will cover about 900 acres and feature roughly 389,000 PV solar panels. The energy produced will power four major customers in the region: MGM Resorts International, Overton Power District, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Las Vegas. The project will use advanced bifacial solar panels, which can absorb sunlight from both sides, increasing efficiency. PV panels play a crucial role in generating renewable energy, helping to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Kelley Brown, Operations Manager of Bechtelโ€™s Renewables & Clean Power business, stated, โ€œBechtel is delighted to be joining a fantastic team to deliver clean power to Estuaryโ€™s customers in southern Nevada. Our commitment to our customers, Estuary and Ullico, with whom we’ve worked closely for 20 years, is to bring our best talent and industry-leading digital processes to deliver fast and effective results. We look forward to building a facility that will generate renewable energy for decades to come and add to Nevadaโ€™s successful history of renewable power generation.โ€

Jill Daniel, founder and CEO of Estuary Power, mentioned, โ€œEstuary is thrilled to partner with Bechtel on the Escape Solar project. We chose Bechtel to design and construct Escape because of our long, trusted relationship and Bechtelโ€™s heritage of designing and constructing the most difficult projects in the world with excellence and professionalism. In a challenging sector, we have every confidence that Bechtel will deliver Escape for our customers.โ€

Bechtel will handle the design and delivery of the solar portion of the PV facility project. This includes all aspects of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and overall project management. The construction is expected to be finished by the third quarter of 2025. Bechtel is actively working on solar projects across the U.S., with ten solar facilities currently being built or planned. Once complete, these projects will generate enough renewable energy to power over half a million homes each year. Estuary Power, a majority woman-owned company, is supported financially by Ullico Infrastructure Fund, which focuses on developing and improving U.S. infrastructure.
