Speaking at the 15th session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly, Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Rowena Cristina L. Guevara called for reducing capital costs for renewable energy projects to ensure an equitable energy transition.

Addressing high-level delegates from 170 member states, Undersecretary Guevara stressed that affordability is key to achieving a just transition to clean energy. โ€œAt the end of the day, in order for the energy transition to be just, we need to afford the electricity generated from renewable energy,โ€ she stated. โ€œBut in order for that to happen, we hope our partners would be able to address the financing gap.โ€

Held under the theme โ€œAccelerating the Renewable Energy Transition โ€“ The Way Forward,โ€ the assembly brought together global leaders, development banks, academia, and private sector representatives to discuss critical challenges and assess progress toward renewable energy targets.

Key discussions focused on:

  • Tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030.
  • Driving innovation to enhance clean energy solutions.
  • Strengthening international cooperation to meet climate goals and sustainability targets.
