2024 marked a year of growth and resilience for the Alsons Power Group, a leading energy company in Mindanao. During the companyโ€™s First Quarter Townhall Meeting, CEO Antonio Miguel B. Alcantara highlighted the Groupโ€™s achievements and commitment to providing value to its stakeholders and communities. Alcantara emphasized that collaboration within the company and the broader Alcantara Group has been a key driver of success. โ€œOur achievements in 2024 are just the foundation,โ€ he stated. โ€œBy leveraging collaboration and a shared vision, we aim to turn todayโ€™s challenges into opportunities for a more sustainable and prosperous future.โ€

Expansion in Renewable Energy

Alsons Power made significant strides in expanding its renewable energy portfolio in 2024, further solidifying its role in the Philippine energy sector. The company completed the 14.5-megawatt (MW) Siguil Hydro Power Plant in Maasim, Sarangani, and made substantial progress on the development of the 37.8-MW Sindangan-Zambo River Power Plant and the 53-MW Bago Hydro Power Plant, both scheduled for construction in 2025.

In addition to its hydro power projects, Alsons Power is intensifying efforts in solar energy, with plans to launch its first large-scale solar power plant in the first half of 2025. โ€œWe are rapidly advancing our solar power initiatives and remain committed to strengthening our project pipeline,โ€ said Alcantara.

Strategic Expansion Beyond Mindanao

Alsons Power is also expanding its reach outside Mindanao. The Phase 1 construction of the 95.2-MW Bohol In-Island Diesel Power Station in Ubay, Bohol, is nearing completion. This facility will provide a reliable backup power source for the province during times of calamities or natural disasters, ensuring continued electricity supply when the region is isolated from the Visayas grid. The project is expected to capitalize on opportunities in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and Ancillary Reserve market over the next 3 to 5 years.

Strengthening Power Supply in Mindanao

Alsons Powerโ€™s Sarangani Energy Corporation remains one of the most cost-efficient baseload power sources in Mindanao, maintaining its competitive edge over the past three years. The company has strategically positioned itself in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market and Reserve Markets, which further strengthens its presence in the region. The reactivation of Unit 1 of the Mapalad Power Corporation (MPC) diesel power plant in Iligan City will also enable the Group to tap into the ancillary reserve market.

The Western Mindanao Power Corporation (WMPC) in Zamboanga City continues to play a pivotal role in stabilizing the regionโ€™s power supply, reinforcing Alsons Powerโ€™s position in the regionโ€™s energy infrastructure.

Expanding Market Reach

Alsons Powerโ€™s Retail Electricity Supply (RES) Unit secured key clients such as Holcim Philippines and Metro Retail Stores Group, Inc., with a total contracted capacity of 43 MW. The company is focused on expanding its market share in the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) market in 2025, as it continues to strengthen its presence in the energy sector.
