The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan has officially approved the 2025 auction schedule for renewable energy projects, inviting investors and developers to participate in expanding the country’s clean energy capacity. The announcement was made by Kazakhstan Electricity and Power Market Operator JSC, outlining the auction period from May 26 to November 12, 2025.

A total of 1,810 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity will be allocated through the auction, covering multiple energy sources:

  • Wind power plants (WPP): 1,200 MW
  • Solar power plants (SPP): 90 MW
  • Hydroelectric power plants (HPP): 500 MW
  • Biofuel power plants (BioPP): 20 MW

Landmark Auction for Wind Farm with Energy Storage

A key highlight of the 2025 auction is the introduction of Kazakhstanโ€™s first-ever auction for a wind power plant integrated with an electricity storage system. The planned wind farm will have a total installed capacity of 1,000 MW and will be located in the Northern Zone of Kazakhstanโ€™s Unified Electric Power System. This initiative marks a significant step in addressing the intermittency challenges of renewable energy and enhancing grid stability.
