GS Inima has taken a major step toward sustainable operations by finalizing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the Barka 5 Photovoltaic (PV) Plant. The agreement marks a significant milestone in the companyโs strategy to integrate renewable energy into its desalination projects.
The 6.5 MWp PV Plant, initiated in 2022, has undergone three years of planning and development. With the PPA now in place, GS Inima is set to begin construction, targeting operational status by the first quarter of 2026. Once completed, the plant is expected to supply approximately 11% of the electricity required by the Barka 5 desalination facility, contributing to long-term energy savings and sustainability.
“This PPA for the Barka 5 PV Plant is a testament to our ongoing efforts to incorporate renewable energy solutions into our projects and to our commitment to delivering sustainable and cost-effective solutions to our valued client, Nama Power and Water Procurement Co (NPWP),” said Juan Josรฉ Benayas, CEO of GS Inima Barka 5 Desalination Company.
Expressing appreciation for stakeholder support, Benayas added, “We are excited to bring this project to fruition and contribute to a more sustainable future for Omanโs water sector, while also fulfilling our obligations to provide reliable and efficient water services. We thank NPWP, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM), the Environmental Authority, Nama Electricity Distribution Co (NEDC), and the Authority for Public Services Regulations (APSR) for their support in this journey.”
The Barka 5 PV Plant underscores GS Inimaโs commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and advancing sustainable water treatment solutions in Oman. The project aligns with the companyโs broader mission to integrate innovative energy solutions into desalination operations, reinforcing its role as a leader in the industry.
