Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Spanish renewable energy firm Zelestra India to procure 16.2 MW of clean energy for its Oragadam manufacturing facility near Chennai. Under the agreement, Zelestra will supply 29 GWh of renewable power annually from its hybrid wind and solar assets in Tamil Nadu.
Zelestra is currently developing a 149 MW hybrid wind and solar power project on the outskirts of Chennai, which will supply part of its output to DICV. This initiative aligns with Daimler Indiaโs sustainability goals, helping power the production of commercial vehicles and luxury buses under the BharatBenz brand, as well as Daimlerโs FUSO, Mercedes-Benz, and Freightliner trucks.
This deal marks a significant milestone for Zelestra, strengthening its footprint in Indiaโs renewable energy sector. The company is expanding its green energy portfolio, with 5 GW of projects in the pipeline and 2.8 GW already committed. Globally, Zelestra has 28 GW of low-carbon projects across 13 countries.
By collaborating with DICV, Zelestra reinforces its role in Indiaโs transition towards clean energy, providing industrial clients with tailored renewable solutions. As businesses increasingly shift towards sustainable operations, this partnership underscores the growing momentum of renewable energy adoption in Indiaโs industrial landscape.
