Business Mauritius (BM), in collaboration with the International Solar Alliance (ISA), inaugurated the two-day SolarX Accelerator Programme in Mauritius today, bringing together 35 startups from Asia, India, and the broader APAC region to accelerate the development of scalable and cost-effective solar energy innovations.
Launched with the goal of supporting and mentoring renewable energy startups, the SolarX Accelerator is designed to fast-track innovative clean energy solutions through mentorship, funding access, and strategic networking.
โThis programme puts the spotlight on three top priorities of the Mauritian business community โ energy transition, innovation, and market expansion across the continent,โ said Kevin Ramkaloan, CEO of Business Mauritius. โWeโre proud to welcome entrepreneurs from across the globe and thank our local partners and public institutions for presenting the Mauritius advantage to these future change-makers.โ
The initiative marks a significant step in the regionโs clean energy transition, especially as developing countries have witnessed a 20% decline in clean-tech solar investments over the past year. SolarX, which was first introduced in Africa and later extended to the APAC region, aims to reverse this trend by connecting solar-focused entrepreneurs with investors, providing tailored mentorship and business scaling support.
Ashish Khanna, Director General of ISA, highlighted the programmeโs long-term impact:
โISA is committed to empowering youth, driving innovation, and enabling job creation through solar energy. Startups from Africa and the Asia-Pacific can facilitate a powerful transfer of ideasโlike a solution developed in Nigeria being implemented in India, or a solar application from Fiji being scaled across the Pacific islands.โ
Startups participating in the SolarX Accelerator will gain:
-Mentorship from solar industry veterans
-Business development and scaling workshops
-Investor networking and partnership opportunities
-A global platform to showcase their solutions
ISA, a treaty-based international intergovernmental organization launched at COP21 by India and France, now includes 123 member and signatory countries. It continues to work closely with governments to expand energy access and security, while promoting solar power as a path to a carbon-neutral future.
The Mauritius edition of SolarX is supported by leading sponsors including Currimjee Group, Eclosia Group, ENL-Rogers Group, and The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd.
As the official voice of the private sector in Mauritius, Business Mauritius remains engaged in numerous public-private platforms that promote economic resilience, social progress, and sustainable development.
