At the renewable energy session of the Bangladesh Investment Summit, recently held in Dhaka, SolarPower Europe and the Bangladesh Solar and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance knowledge exchange and technical expertise in support of Bangladesh’s renewable energy growth.
This MoU marks the beginning of a new partnership between the two organizations, focusing on initiatives such as exchanging market intelligence, promoting industry best practices, exploring capacity building for advocacy, and joint efforts to engage with policymakers when relevant.
Mรกtรฉ Heisz, Chief Operating Officer of SolarPower Europe, expressed enthusiasm about formalizing the collaboration with BSREA, highlighting that Bangladesh, as one of South Asiaโs most promising solar markets, offers significant opportunities for cooperation in areas like technology transfer, investment, and policy support. He noted that Europe is well-positioned to play a key role in supporting Bangladeshโs solar expansion through facilitating financing, enhancing regulatory frameworks, and fostering partnerships between European and Bangladeshi companies.
BSREA Chairman Mostafa Al Mahmud emphasized that the association fully supports these ambitions and is committed to contributing meaningfully to the partnership. He stated that the collaboration signals a new era of cooperation, innovation, and a shared vision for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Bangladesh. He also expressed pride in welcoming SolarPower Europe as a strategic partner, recognizing their global expertise and technological excellence as a valuable asset in building a resilient energy ecosystem in Bangladesh.
The MoU was signed during the B2B segment of the high-level renewable energy session at the Bangladesh Investment Summit, organized by the European Union in collaboration with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), UNDP, and EuroCham Bangladesh. The event was themed “Unlocking the Potential of Bangladesh for Investors in Renewable Energy,” reflecting the significant EUR 1.3 billion footprint of the Team Europe initiative, which includes the Global Gatewayโs โBangladesh Renewable Energy Facility.โ
Investors had the chance to meet with European companies already operating in Bangladesh, ranging from multinationals to SMEs, and gain practical insights into the opportunities and challenges of doing business in the country.
