Zelestra, a global renewable energy company known for its multi-technology expertise and customer-focused approach, has begun construction of a new solar power plant in Ginosa, located in the Taranto province of Italyโs Puglia region. The plant will have an installed capacity of 6.5 MWdc and is expected to generate approximately 11.7 GWh of electricity annually.
This project is part of a broader collaboration between Zelestra and BKW Energy, which includes a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the procurement of renewable energy. In addition to the Ginosa plant, the agreement covers the future development of the Bellomo project in Modica, Sicily, which will have an installed capacity of 9.5 MWdc and is scheduled to begin construction later this year.
Construction of the Ginosa project has already created around 50 jobs, contributing to local employment. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in February 2026 and is projected to prevent the emission of nearly 3,700 tons of CO2 annually, supporting Italyโs environmental goals. Altenia, part of the Terna Energy Solutions Group, is serving as the main EPC contractor for the Ginosa site. Known for its advanced and customized infrastructure solutions, Altenia brings expertise in managing high and medium-voltage energy systems and is a key partner to companies and investors in the sector.
Eliano Russo, Zelestraโs Country Manager in Italy, said in a statement, Italy is a key growth market for Zelestra, and this project is an important step on our journey to help customers across the country with their decarbonization ambitions. The clean energy solutions that we co-create with our customers directly enhance the green economy, by creating jobs and delivering new infrastructure that will support emissions reduction goals for decades to come.โ
Currently, Zelestra has about 30 renewable energy projects under development in Italy, totaling over 500 MW in capacity. The company has set its sights on tripling its project pipeline over the next two years. Its growing influence in the clean energy market was recently recognized by BloombergNEF, which ranked Zelestra among the top 10 global sellers of clean energy to corporate customers and number two in the Europe, Middle East, and Asia region.
