In a significant development for India’s solar power landscape, Evren, a renewable energy platform launched by Brookfield in India, has entered into a 300 MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with state-owned energy leader NTPC Ltd. The agreement centers on boosting firm and dispatchable green energy, with solar energy playing a leading role in the generation mix.
Under the PPA, Evren will develop nearly 1 GW of renewable energy infrastructure, including large-scale solar PV projects, supported by wind and battery energy storage systems (BESS). Solar is expected to account for a substantial portion of the total capacity, reinforcing India’s mission to scale clean power generation and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
By integrating solar with battery storage, the project aims to provide consistent and reliable energy to the grid, overcoming the intermittency challenge of solar generation. The solar capacity developed through this agreement will contribute significantly to NTPC’s growing portfolio of non-fossil energy assets.
This partnership underscores NTPC’s commitment to expanding clean energy through solar, while Brookfield’s Evren brings in international investment and expertise in utility-scale renewables.
The project is a strategic step toward meeting India’s ambitious solar targets under its National Solar Mission and fulfilling commitments to climate action and sustainable development.
