OQ Gas Networks Partners with Gasunie to Develop Green Hydrogen Infrastructure in Oman

OQ Gas Networks SAOG (OQGN), the exclusive operator of Oman’s natural gas transmission network, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gasunie Waterstof Holding B.V. (Gasunie), a Dutch natural gas infrastructure and transportation company. The agreement marks a significant step in Oman’s commitment to sustainable energy as part of its Vision 2040.

This partnership aims to explore the development of green hydrogen infrastructure in Oman and facilitate knowledge exchange in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies. The MoU follows an earlier agreement between Oman and the Netherlands, signed in November 2022 during COP27, which focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in green energy.

The MoU was co-signed by Eng. Mansoor bin Ali Al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, and Ms. Willemien Terpstra, CEO of Gasunie. The collaboration will focus on developing a hydrogen supply chain linking Oman with the Netherlands and Northwest Europe, with an emphasis on building the necessary hydrogen infrastructure in Oman.

Eng. Mansoor bin Ali Al Abdali expressed OQGN’s commitment to advancing Oman’s green hydrogen value chain, stating, “This collaboration will strengthen Oman’s role in the global energy transition and promote innovation in CCUS initiatives, which are crucial for achieving international climate goals.”

The agreement reinforces OQGN’s strategic role in enabling Oman’s transformation into a leading exporter of green hydrogen, supporting global climate objectives and long-term sustainability.
