Sungrow, a global leader in PV inverter and energy storage solutions, announced that its latest innovation—the 1+X 2.0 Modular Inverter—has earned the 2025 iF Design Award. Chosen from over 10,000 international submissions, it marks the first time a modular inverter has received this highly regarded honor, often called the “Oscars of the design world.”

The iF Design Award jury assessed entries based on innovation, differentiation, form, functionality, and sustainability. Sungrow’s 1+X 2.0 Modular Inverter impressed the judges with its cutting-edge modular structure, intelligent operational features, and commitment to sustainable design. This breakthrough sets a new standard for utility-scale PV inverter design and performance.

Small Module, Mega Impact

The 1+X 2.0 Modular Inverter offers even greater modularity than its predecessor. Each module delivers 800kW, and systems can be scaled flexibly from 800kW to 9.6MW (by connecting up to 12 units in parallel). This allows for versatile applications across a wide range of project scenarios.

The inverter’s split modular design separates key components (such as IGBTs and capacitors) into the upper module, allowing for rapid on-site replacement. This design reduces operation and maintenance (O&M) time to just one hour per module swap, enabling field engineers to carry out quick and efficient maintenance.

Additionally, the 1+X 2.0 uses AI-driven diagnostics for real-time fault detection, eliminating the need for manual troubleshooting, accelerating repair times, and minimizing labor dependence.

AI-Driven Intelligence for Hassle-Free O&M

The inverter integrates advanced technologies such as AI-powered fault detection, automated air duct cleaning, and intelligent IV curve analysis to enhance operational efficiency and minimize human intervention. Capable of accurately identifying and locating over 20 different types of faults, the system ensures swift and precise issue resolution.

Its self-cleaning air intake ducts automatically remove debris, doing away with manual cleaning tasks. Smart IV diagnostics enable real-time system health checks without requiring shutdowns or additional server installations, supporting smarter, more refined O&M for utility-scale PV plants.

Sustainability at Every Stage

Sustainability is embedded in the 1+X 2.0 Modular Inverter’s lifecycle—from material sourcing and manufacturing to transportation, installation, operation, and maintenance. The inverter’s grid-forming capability allows it to power a plant during construction and commissioning by creating a microgrid across several units. This feature removes the need for diesel generators, shortens grid connection timelines, enhances power generation, and cuts emissions.

The inverter also boasts a 15% smaller footprint compared to conventional inverters, minimizing material use. Its modular design supports quick assembly, easier maintenance, part-level reuse, and promotes a greener project lifecycle overall.

In addition to its outstanding performance and sustainability features, the 1+X 2.0 Modular Inverter masterfully balances functionality with aesthetics. Its minimalist design combines sleek circular and square elements with a contemporary white-gray color scheme, offering a blend of technological elegance and user-friendly appeal. The seamless integration of the display panel with rounded ventilation openings enhances both the visual flow and ease of maintenance. The black display panel provides excellent visibility even under strong sunlight, allowing users to easily monitor system status at a glance.
