GE Vernova has announced a $16 million investment in India to strengthen its capabilities in advanced grid technologies that support the stable, reliable, and secure delivery of electricity.
The funding will be through GE Vernova T&D India Limited and will go toward expanding its current manufacturing site in Chennai and establishing a new engineering facility in Noida. The goal is to increase production and testing of critical equipment used in modern transmission systemsโhelping power Indiaโs energy transition and meeting global demand.
โIndia continues to be a critical part of our global strategyโboth for our customers and as a manufacturing hub,โ saidย Johan Bindele, VP of Grid Systems Integration at GE Vernova.ย โGE Vernovaโs Electrification equipment backlog has more than tripled over the past yearโdriven by strong demand for transformers, switchgear, and grid technologies including HVDC and FACTS. These new expansions are aimed at enhancing our capabilities in the region, helping reduce supply chain dependencies, and allowing us to deliver faster, smarter solutions to customers in India and around the world.โ
โWith energy demand rising and more renewables being added to the grid, the need for strong, smart, and flexible infrastructure has never been greater,โ saidย Sandeep Zanzaria, Managing Director and CEO of GE Vernova T&D India Limited. โThrough this investment, we are strengthening our ability to deliver technologies that help utilities move more power, with fewer losses, over longer distancesโand do it more sustainably.โ
The Chennai site will add a new manufacturing line to produce key components for High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS). These include Line Commutated Converter (LCC) HVDC valves and Voltage Source Converter (VSC) STATCOM valvesโtechnologies that reduce transmission losses, stabilize power grids, and connect renewable energy sources to areas where power is most needed.
Meanwhile, the new Noida facility will house an engineering and test lab to support product design, system validation, and control systems development for these advanced technologies. The lab is expected to be operational by the end of 2025. The new manufacturing line in Chennai is set to begin operations in early 2027.
This investment is part of GE Vernovaโs broader $4 billion global capital expenditure plan through 2028 and supports the companyโs โAsia for Asiaโ strategy, which aims to localize manufacturing to serve regional markets more effectively and strengthen supply chain resilience.
The move also aligns with Indiaโs clean energy goals by expanding local production of technologies that help deliver more efficient, lower-emission power across homes, businesses, and industries.
