Nextracker, a top company in solar technology, has announced it has bought Bentek Corporation, a U.S.-based company known for making electrical equipment used in all kinds of solar power plants. The deal, which is an all-cash purchase of about $78 million (including potential future payments), brings together Bentek’s ready-to-use electrical balance of system (eBOS) solutions with Nextracker’s advanced solar tracker platform. This combination allows customers to buy everything they need from one place, making project planning and logistics easier.
Bentek’s eBOS products will be available both as standalone parts that work with solar trackers and fixed-tilt systems, and also in specially designed versions for Nextracker’s integrated NX Horizon™ system. Bentek’s manufacturing facilities in the U.S. strengthen Nextracker’s supply chain within the country. This acquisition supports Nextracker’s ongoing goal to add complementary technologies to its leading tracker platform. It aims to speed up solar plant construction, improve system performance, and boost long-term reliability.
eBOS components are key electrical parts used in large solar projects. They help gather and move electricity from the solar panels to power systems across the entire site. Bentek has been delivering trusted, patented, and U.S.-made products for over 15 years. Their equipment is known for its strong design, quality manufacturing, and thorough testing, ensuring high reliability in the field.
Howard Wenger, President of Nextracker, said in a statement, “It is fantastic to join forces with Bentek, expanding the Nextracker platform with exceptional eBOS products and expertise. Together, we can offer fully engineered, integrated solutions that can help accelerate procurement and construction timelines and reduce installed cost, all backed by the trusted Nextracker brand. We believe that an integrated design approach can unlock synergies between the mechanical and electrical subsystems, driving enhanced customer value and creating a new and powerful solar power plant platform business model.”
George Hershman, CEO of SOLV Energy, stated, “SOLV is thrilled that Nextracker has entered eBOS manufacturing; we have been encouraging them to make this move to bring their operational excellence and financial strength to electrical products supporting solar power plants. Bentek was a great choice for Nextracker; SOLV has been using their reliable and high-quality products for many years and is a current customer.”
“Today is an exciting day for Nextracker and for U.S. solar manufacturing. In utility-scale solar, eBOS quality and reliability are critical to system uptime and long-term ROI. Bentek is a proven eBOS innovator and pioneer with several families of IP and issued patents. Nextracker’s financial resources, technology acumen, and supply chain expertise will enable Bentek to rapidly scale,” commented Dan Shugar, founder and CEO of Nextracker.
Bentek’s trusted eBOS solutions meet the highest North American safety standards and are widely used by leading solar engineering, procurement, and construction companies (EPCs) as well as solar project developers. These engineered products offer flexible options that help make installation safer, more efficient, and reliable. One key solution is the trunk bus system, which uses PV harnessing and insulation piercing connectors (IPC) to link solar panels directly to inverters.
This approach simplifies wiring by grouping cables within tracker rows and sending power straight to the inverters, reducing labor costs during installation, improving reliability, and lowering maintenance needs over the system’s lifetime. Another solution is the combiner box, a pre-made unit mounted on tracker rows that combines multiple solar panel strings and delivers power to the inverters.
This plug-and-play setup provides greater flexibility and easier maintenance. Additionally, Bentek offers configurable harness solutions tailored for each project, connecting multiple solar panel strings in parallel for dependable DC power collection. These harnesses feature factory-made over-molded fuses and joints, allowing compatibility with a wide range of cable sizes and connector types.
