In a major boost to Peru’s renewable energy ambitions, LONGi, the world’s leading solar technology innovator, has announced a landmark partnership with Yinson Renewables to supply 53.2 megawatts (MW) of its latest Hi-MO 9 modules for the Sol de Verano 1 Solar Project near Majes, Peru. This collaboration underscores the growing global demand for back contact (BC) technology, positioning it as the preferred choice for utility-scale solar developments.
The Sol de Verano 1 project represents the initial phase of Yinson Renewables’ ground-mounted solar plant in the country and will feature 82,836 high-efficiency Hi-MO 9 modules. Developed through coordinated efforts across regions, the project supports LONGi’s commitment to enabling decarbonization in emerging markets while adhering to strict performance and sustainability benchmarks.
Construction of the project is scheduled to begin in May 2025, marking a key milestone in Peru’s pursuit of its national goal to derive 60% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
Hi-MO 9 Modules: Next-Generation Technology for Utility-Scale Solar
The Hi-MO 9 module leverages BC technology to eliminate front-side electrode shading, a significant performance advantage in high-irradiance regions like southern Peru. The modules also come equipped with advanced anti-PID and anti-LID protection, ensuring robust operation under harsh environmental conditions. Their ultra-high power density helps optimize land use—crucial in areas with environmental sensitivities—while a 30-year linear power warranty ensures sustained returns for project developers.
Leon Zhang, President of LONGi Europe, highlighted the significance of the collaboration: “This partnership with Yinson Renewables exemplifies how BC technology transcends borders to deliver transformative impact. Hi-MO 9’s unmatched efficiency and durability are reshaping solar’s role in the global energy mix. This project is a testament to LONGi’s vision of a zero-carbon future, powered by partnerships that prioritize both performance and sustainability.”
David Brunt, Chief Executive Officer of Yinson Renewables, shared his perspective on the partnership: “The LONGi’s Hi-MO 9 module was chosen following a detailed competitive technical and commercial analysis. Their expertise and responsiveness have been crucial in the initial phase of the project. We are confident in LONGi’s ability to deliver at the highest standards, and we look forward to a successful collaboration and a long-term partnership that supports our broader renewable energy goals in the region and globally.”
A Blueprint for Future Collaborations
As LONGi’s first collaboration with Yinson Renewables, the Sol de Verano 1 project sets a precedent for future partnerships in high-growth renewable markets. By combining LONGi’s global technological leadership with Yinson’s local project development acumen, the initiative serves as a model for accelerating the deployment of BC technology and advancing the global clean energy transition.
