Zelestra, a global renewable energy company known for its multi-technology approach and customer-focused solutions, has signed an important agreement with Sungrow to deliver advanced battery storage systems for one of the largest battery energy storage projects in Latin America. As part of the agreement, Sungrow will supply its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled Battery Energy Storage System along with Medium Voltage (MV) Power Conversion Units. These systems will support a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a storage capacity of approximately 1 GWh.

The BESS is a key component of the hybrid Aurora project located in Tarapacรก, Chile. The project also includes a 220 MWdc solar power plant, which will be equipped with Sungrowโ€™s 1+X Modular Inverter featuring an 8.8 MW block design. This project has allowed Zelestra to develop a customized, multi-technology energy solution designed to provide a reliable supply of solar power during nighttime hours. This will be achieved through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Abastible, a leading Chilean energy company. Abastible, recognized as a major player in the liquefied natural gas market, has been expanding its footprint in the electricity sector in recent years.

The agreement will help the company further diversify its energy mix and enhance its carbon-free energy offerings. Construction of the Aurora project is currently underway. Once operational, it is expected to generate around 600 GWh of renewable electricity annuallyโ€”enough to meet the energy needs of approximately 200,000 households in Chile. The project represents a significant contribution to the countryโ€™s broader decarbonization efforts. Delivery of the battery storage systems is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Leo Moreno, CEO of Zelestra, said in a statement, โ€œWith this major agreement, we have secured some of the most advanced BESS technology available in the market to deliver one of the largest battery storage projects ever in Latin America. This is an important milestone for the Aurora project, as we advance towards the delivery of this highly customized hybrid solution that will meet the needs of our customer, Abastible.โ€

Jack Gu, Vice Chairman at Sungrow, mentioned, โ€œWe are proud to partner with Zelestra on the landmark Aurora project, delivering our cutting-edge PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage solution as well as PV inverters to one of the most significant hybrid projects in Latin America. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to accelerating the energy transition in Chile and across the region, while ensuring a reliable, sustainable power supply for Chilean homes. Together, we are unlocking the full potential of solar and storage to build a greener future.โ€

Zelestraโ€™s involvement in the Aurora project is part of its larger commitment to renewable energy across Latin America. The company has a project pipeline exceeding 7 GW of multi-technology energy developments, including over 1.7 GW that are either contracted, under construction, or already in operation. Zelestraโ€™s leadership in the renewable energy sector has been recognized by BloombergNEF (BNEF), which recently named the company among the top 10 clean energy suppliers to corporate buyers globally, and the second-largest in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
