The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson and CEO, Atty. Monalisa Dimalanta, emphasized on Monday that the Philippines’ renewable energy (RE) agenda is a long-term commitment aimed at reducing the country’s dependence on imported fuel while fostering a more secure and inclusive power system.
Speaking at the Solar and Storage Live 2025 event held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Chairperson Dimalanta stated that the various programs under the RE agenda are more than mere milestones to be achieved. She described the agenda as a strategic blueprint designed to โliberate our power system from high dependence on imported fuelโ and a โcovenant to energy democracyโ that empowers stakeholders and consumers to make informed energy decisions.
Dimalanta highlighted three major ongoing transformations shaping the sector: the Green Shift, the Network Shift, and the Source/Supply Shift. These shifts are key drivers moving the country closer to achieving energy security, sustainability, and affordability.
The Chairperson also cited measurable progress within the sector, including a 121% increase in net-metering registrations, the steady expansion of the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program, and a nearly 90% growth in participants under the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) by the end of 2024.
These developments underscore the countryโs advancing renewable energy landscape and its dedication to building a resilient, consumer-empowered energy future.
