Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD) Group and UAE-based Broaden Energy have signed a 50-year land lease agreement to develop a state-of-the-art hydrogen manufacturing facility in KEZAD Area A (Al Maโmourah). The agreement was formalized during the fourth edition of the Make it in the Emirates (MIITE) forum held in Abu Dhabi.
The deal marks the first phase of Broaden Energyโs major manufacturing expansion in the UAE, first announced last year in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED). Once completed, the new facility will be the regionโs first integrated complex for local hydrogen generation, refueling, and storage systems.
Broaden Energy is investing AED455 million in the 80,000 square metre plant, which is expected to generate approximately 1,000 permanent direct jobs. The facility will produce sustainable energy solutions powered by renewable sources including hydrogen, solar, and wind.
Abdullah Al Hameli, CEO of Economic Cities and Free Zones, highlighted the projectโs alignment with national priorities. โRenewable energy is crucial to Abu Dhabiโs mission to diversify the energy mix for sustainable economic development. Our partnership with Broaden Energy reflects KEZADโs commitment to supporting innovation in clean energy manufacturing in line with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050,โ he said.
Adnan Sokolija, CEO of Broaden Energy, emphasized the companyโs strategic focus on clean technology. โThis agreement with KEZAD is a critical milestone in our journey to advance hydrogen-based solutions that contribute to Abu Dhabiโs clean energy ambitions and industrial growth,โ he stated.
The initiative underscores KEZADโs role in fostering innovation in the renewable energy sector and advancing Abu Dhabiโs broader economic diversification goals through industrial investment and sustainable development.
