Sembcorp Industries has secured a 150-MW solar power project in India through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Infra Pvt Ltd. The award is part of SJVN Ltdโ€™s 1.2-GW tender for Inter State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar projects, which also includes a substantial battery energy storage system (BESS) component of 600 MW/2.4 GWh.

According to a company announcement made on Thursday, Sembcorp received the Letter of Award from SJVN for the project, which features a 300-MWh BESS alongside the solar installation. The project follows a build-own-operate model and will be governed by a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SJVN.

Once operational, the hybrid system is expected to deliver solar power consistently and help meet peak electricity demand for up to four hours daily via the integrated battery storage. Commercial operations are anticipated to commence within 24 months from the PPA signing date. Project financing will be arranged through a combination of internal funds and external debt.

This marks Sembcorpโ€™s second hybrid solar-plus-storage project in India and boosts its renewable energy footprint in the country to 6.3 GW. On a global scale, the companyโ€™s renewable energy portfolio now stands at 17.7 GW, including projects currently under acquisition.
