TotalEnergies and RGE, a group specializing in bio-based resources and energy, have announced that their equally owned joint venture, Singa Renewables (โSingaโ), has received a conditional license from Singaporeโs Energy Market Authority (EMA) to import 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy from Indonesia. Alongside this announcement, the partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Singapore Energy Interconnections (SGEI) to jointly develop a subsea interconnector that will facilitate the import of electricity from Indonesia to Singapore.
Earlier, on May 28, 2025, during a ceremony held in Jakarta with French President Emmanuel Macron and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in attendance, the partners signed a Co-Investment Agreement. This agreement covers the development, construction, and operation of a hybrid renewable power plant in Riau Province, Indonesia. The facility will include a solar farm, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and a subsea cable.
The project aims to provide Clean Firm Power both to energy-intensive users in Singapore and to industrial complexes located near the solar site in Riau Province. Throughout the projectโs development, TotalEnergies will contribute its global experience in managing large-scale energy projects, while RGE will leverage its extensive presence in Indonesia and Singapore.
Helle Kristoffersen, President Asia and Executive Committee Member at TotalEnergies, said in a statement, โI would like to thank the Singapore authorities for granting the necessary licences for this landmark electricity import project, that we are pleased to develop with our partner RGE. The project will contribute to Singaporeโs goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050, while supporting Riau Provinceโs economic development in Indonesia. This initiative also illustrates TotalEnergiesโ commitment to ASEANโs energy transition and security of supply.โ
Imelda Tanoto, Managing Director at RGE, stated, โWe are doing our part to accelerate the regionโs clean energy transition. The Conditional Licence is a key milestone that affirms our role in advancing the regionโs collaboration and decarbonization goals as we remain focused on creating lasting value for communities, markets, and governments alike.โ
TotalEnergies is actively building a diverse portfolio that integrates renewable energy sources, such as solar, onshore and offshore wind, alongside flexible assets like combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGT) and energy storage systems. As of March 2025, TotalEnergies had 28 GW of installed gross renewable electricity capacity and plans to reach 35 GW by the end of 2025. The company also aims to produce over 100 terawatt-hours (TWh) of net electricity annually by 2030.
