Avangrid’s Senior VP Kimberly Harriman Appointed To The Board Of The New York State Energy Research And Development Authority (NYSERDA)

Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company and part of the Iberdrola Group, has announced that Kimberly Harriman, Senior Vice President of Public and Regulatory Affairs at Avangrid, has been nominated by the Governor of New York and confirmed by the New York State Senate to serve on the Board of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Harriman brings over two decades of experience in New York’s energy sector to this new role.

NYSERDA’s board consists of 13 members. Four serve in an ex officio capacity: the Commissioners of the Departments of Transportation and Environmental Conservation, the Chair of the Public Service Commission, and the President and CEO of the New York Power Authority. The remaining nine members are appointed by the Governor with the Senate’s approval. Harriman will join this group as one of the appointed board members.

Harriman has served as Avangrid’s Senior Vice President of Public and Regulatory Affairs since June 2022. She initially joined the company in late 2020 as Vice President of State Government Relations and Public Affairs. In that position, she led efforts across New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maine, managing state relations and public affairs for electric and gas utilities and renewable energy projects, including both onshore and offshore initiatives spanning 22 states.

Before joining Avangrid, Harriman spent more than 20 years in public service, focusing on energy policy and regulation in New York. Her past roles include Senior Vice President of Public and Regulatory Affairs at the New York Power Authority, where she was also a member of the Executive Management Committee and served as Chairperson of the Canal Management Committee. In this role, she oversaw the integration and operations of the Canal Corporation.

Harriman also held the position of General Counsel at the New York Department of Public Service, where she led the legal team representing the Department and Public Service Commission in both state and federal regulatory proceedings. Prior to becoming General Counsel, she worked in various roles within the department, including Assistant Counsel on major utility rate cases and Administrative Law Judge for complex utility proceedings.

Additionally, Harriman served as Assistant Secretary for Energy in the Executive Chamber, contributing to the development of state and federal energy policies, including on-bill financing and energy-driven economic development initiatives. She also gained experience in energy law while in private practice. Harriman holds a law degree from Albany Law School of Union University and a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in economics from Siena College.
