Avangrid, Inc. has announced a significant leadership change as its current CEO, Pedro Azagra, has been appointed as the new CEO of Iberdrola, S.A. The appointment was made by Ignacio Galรกn, Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, along with the companyโ€™s Board of Directors. With this transition, Avangrid has appointed Jose Antonio Miranda as its new Chief Executive Officer, and Kimberly Harriman as Deputy CEO. Miranda currently serves as President and CEO of Avangrid Power, while Harriman is the Senior Vice President of Public and Regulatory Affairs.

Pedro Azagra has led Avangrid since May 2022, during which time the company experienced notable growth in both financial results and project development. Under his leadership, Avangrid navigated the post-pandemic period, managing the challenges of global inflation and supply chain disruptions. He is credited with assembling a strong leadership team that has positioned the company for continued success.

Prior to his role at Avangrid, Azagra served as Chief Development Officer at Iberdrola, S.A., where he was responsible for executing more than 120 transactions worth over $120 billion. He played a key role in Iberdrolaโ€™s international expansion into markets such as the U.S., UK, Brazil, Australia, and several European countries. In addition to his new role, Azagra continues to serve on the board of Neoenergia, S.A. and holds positions on the Executive Committee of the Edison Electric Institute and the Board of Trustees of Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.

Jose Antonio Miranda, who now takes over as CEO of Avangrid, joined the company in October 2021 as President and CEO of Avangrid Power. During his tenure, he has led the companyโ€™s energy generation business across the U.S., helping it achieve more than 10 GW of installed capacity and serving over 3.1 million customers. Miranda brings decades of international experience in the energy sector. Before joining Avangrid, he served as CEO of Siemens Gamesa Americas and chaired its boards in the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil. He also led operations as CEO and Chairman of Gamesa in China and held several senior roles at ABB in the transmission and distribution segment. Miranda holds a Masterโ€™s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oviedo and an MBA from ICADE (Universidad Pontificia de Comillas), both in Spain.

Kimberly Harriman, named Deputy CEO, joined Avangrid in 2020 and was promoted to Senior Vice President of Public and Regulatory Affairs in 2022. She is responsible for overseeing government relations and regulatory strategy for Avangridโ€™s electric and gas utility subsidiaries in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maine, as well as power generation projects across 22 states. Harriman has over 20 years of experience in energy policy and regulation. Prior to joining Avangrid, she held senior roles at the New York Power Authority, including SVP of Public and Regulatory Affairs. She also served as General Counsel at the New York Department of Public Service and worked as an Assistant Counsel and Administrative Law Judge in major utility proceedings.

This leadership transition marks an important chapter for both Avangrid and Iberdrola. With Azagra stepping into the global CEO role at Iberdrola and a capable leadership team continuing at Avangrid, the group is well-positioned to drive its clean energy strategy forward in both domestic and international markets.
