Jigawa Government Approves N292 Million for Solar-Powered Water Projects

The Jigawa State Government has approved N292 million for the construction of 19 solar-powered water supply schemes across the state, in a strategic move to tackle water scarcity and enhance public health.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa.

According to Musa, the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure using renewable energy. “This approval reflects the administration’s focus on improving access to clean water and promoting green solutions,” he stated.

Musa emphasized that the integration of solar technology in the water supply schemes would contribute to environmental sustainability, while benefiting both urban and rural communities facing water shortages.

In a separate development, the council also approved the renaming of the Ministry of Special Duties to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties.

The commissioner explained that the restructuring is intended to broaden the ministry’s mandate to more effectively respond to emerging humanitarian challenges across the state. “The change aligns with national and international frameworks and will enhance coordination of humanitarian interventions for vulnerable populations,” Musa added.
