JA Solar, a trusted partner in global green energy, launched JA Solar Power Talk,a new global webinar series for expert dialogue on the future of solar energy. As extreme weather events intensify, PV systems face growing risks that threaten long-term reliability and investment returns. The inaugural episode, โ€œHow Your Modules Can Survive Extreme Weather,โ€ convened leading voices from R&D, materials, and certification to explore how the industry is responding to these challenges.

Held on June 30, the session examined how PV modules can maintain durable performance in harsh environments such as deserts, coastal zones, and high-altitude regions. Panelists shared insights on scenario-based product design, advanced testing methods, and material innovations that are shaping the next generation of climate-resilient solar solutions.

Dr. Helen Zhou, Head of Module R&D at JA Solar, emphasized that while the industry pursues lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), performance gains must not come at the expense of cost-effectiveness. She noted that quality remains the top priority, and achieving the right balance is both a technical and strategic challenge. Rather than overdesigning for universal use, JA Solar focuses on developing scenario-specific products, optimizing each solution for its intended environment to ensure reliability, efficiency, and economic viability.

Mr. Roger Miao, General Manager of PV at TรœV NORD China, provided insights into how the testing body is addressing the evolving demands beyond conventional certification frameworks. He outlined TรœV NORDโ€™s advanced testing approach, which includes field simulations in desert conditions, sand abrasion assessments, and structural validation using wind tunnels and finite element modeling. He also reaffirmed TรœVโ€™s commitment to working with manufacturers to close the gap between standards and application realities.

Ms. Betty Zhu, Vice President and Co-founder of Jiangsu Worldlight New Material Co., Ltd., introduced composite frame technologies designed to offer betterperformance thanaluminum in extreme conditions. She explained how material innovations developed in collaboration with partners such as BASF offer superior mechanical strength, UV resistance, and salt corrosion protection. She also underscored the importance of supply chain localization and long-term product validation to help mitigate the trade-offs that can arise under cost constraints.

The event concluded with a forward-looking dialogue on the future of solar in a changing climate. Panelists emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration, the growing role of meteorological data in project planning, and the need for tailored module solutions that address specific environmental challenges.
