With a combined 12.2 MWh of battery storage, ATESS-supported projects in Gozbeida and Mossouro demonstrate how integrated solar and microgrid solutions can strengthen electricity access in underserved communities.
Reliable electricity remains a significant challenge in Chad, where limited grid infrastructure continues to affect households, businesses, and essential services. In many communities, residents have traditionally depended on small-scale solar systems and alternative power sources that cannot consistently meet daily electricity requirements. Expanding access to dependable power requires decentralised energy infrastructure capable of operating in areas with limited or nonexistent utility grid connectivity.
Addressing these challenges, ATESS has provided integrated power conversion and energy storage solutions for two government-backed energy projects in Gozbeida and Mossouro, Chad. Featuring a combined 12.2 MWh of battery storage, the projects demonstrate how solar energy, advanced power conversion technology, and microgrid infrastructure can support reliable electricity supply in underserved regions.

Gozbeida: Integrating 2.5 MW Solar PV with 5 MWh Battery Storage
In Gozbeida, limited electricity infrastructure has historically restricted access to reliable power. Many residents previously relied on small solar panels, with stored energy often insufficient to meet overnight electricity requirements. To address these challenges, a government-supported solar energy project incorporates ATESS power conversion technology alongside large-scale photovoltaic generation and battery storage.

The installation integrates 2.5 MW of solar PV capacity with a 5 MWh battery energy storage system, supported by 2.52 MW of inverter capacity. The system incorporates four ATESS PCS630 power conversion units, enabling coordinated operation between solar generation and battery storage.
With an estimated annual electricity generation of 4,130 MWh, the project is designed to provide a more consistent electricity supply to the city, particularly during periods of limited solar generation. By storing excess solar energy for later use, the system helps improve local power availability and reduces dependence on fragmented, small-scale electricity sources.
Mossouro: A 4 MW Off-Grid Microgrid Supporting City Power Supply
In Mossouro, ATESS has delivered an integrated off-grid microgrid solution for a government project designed to supply electricity to a nearby city without depending on the conventional utility grid.
The project features a 4 MW off-grid microgrid system with 7.2 MWh of battery storage, designed to support independent electricity supply. The installation incorporates four ATESS PCS1000 power conversion units, 36 SMC200 units, and four Bypass630 units. It also includes a 15 kV step-up transformer and a 33 kV step-down transformer to support electricity distribution.

ATESS supplied the major system components, including the transformers, as part of a customised, integrated power solution. This approach brings together power conversion, storage, and distribution equipment within a coordinated microgrid architecture.
With an estimated annual electricity generation of 4,095 MWh, the system is designed to support local electricity demand through independently operated microgrid infrastructure, demonstrating a practical approach to electrification in areas beyond conventional grid coverage.
Strengthening Electricity Access Through Decentralised Energy
Together, the Gozbeida and Mossouro projects highlight the growing importance of decentralised energy solutions in addressing electricity access challenges across Chad.
While Gozbeida integrates solar generation with battery storage to improve local power availability, Mossouro demonstrates how a customised off-grid microgrid can support independent electricity supply.
Beyond their technical configurations, both projects illustrate the role of reliable power conversion, energy storage, and integrated system design in extending electricity services to underserved communities.
For ATESS, these installations demonstrate the application of its integrated energy solutions in challenging operating environments, supporting broader efforts to expand electricity access and develop more resilient, decentralised power infrastructure across Chad.
