Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) has launched a new Green Energy Skill Centre in Rohini, New Delhi, focused on training India’s future green energy workforce. The centre will offer specialized training in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems—covering installation, commissioning, and operations & maintenance—as well as energy storage, pumped hydro storage, and electrical safety. The aim is to equip learners with hands-on skills aligned with India’s growing clean energy needs.
The centre was inaugurated by Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, along with Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power. The launch event was attended by officials from MNRE, NITI Aayog, REC, National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), Tata Power, and Tata Power Delhi Distribution.
TPSDI holds dual awarding body status from NCVET and offers courses that integrate the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and approved Qualification Packs (QPs). Its training programs align with national priorities, including the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, and aim to support India’s sustainable development goals while positioning TPSDI as a leading institute for energy sector training.
The institute currently offers over 200 modular courses across various areas such as green energy, safety, power systems, transmission & distribution, and soft skills. With a strong emphasis on practical learning, TPSDI has trained over 3.43 lakh individuals across 1.3 million person-days. This includes more than 50,000 individuals from underprivileged backgrounds and over 18,000 women.
The new Rohini Centre is TPSDI’s 12th full-fledged training hub in India. Existing hubs are located in Mundra (Gujarat), Shahad, Trombay, and Vidyavihar (Maharashtra), Wayanad (Kerala), Maithon and Jojobera (Jharkhand). It also operates five spokes in Bikaner (Rajasthan), Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Balasore (Odisha), and Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), with plans to open additional hubs in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Cuttack. Eight more centres are scheduled to be launched this year.
TPSDI’s training presence spans 43+ locations, including international programs in Bhutan, Ethiopia, and Liberia. Through its Green Energy Skilling Centres in states like Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, TPSDI trains young people in solar system design, installation, and maintenance, as well as wind, hydro, and green hydrogen technologies. These programs support government initiatives while building a skilled workforce for the renewable energy sector.
TPSDI is an affiliated partner of the Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC) and the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ), and is among the few private training bodies in India with NCVET affiliation and dual awarding authority. Its training methodology combines real-life industrial setups, simulators, virtual reality tools, and remote access through its Virtual Academy of Skills.
Recognized by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), certified under ISO 21001:2018, and backed by national skill councils, TPSDI continues to play a vital role in India’s energy transition by enhancing employability, encouraging entrepreneurship, and promoting a safety-first approach in the power sector. The new Rohini centre is located at the Cenpeid campus, a Tata Power-DDL training facility, symbolizing the collaboration between Tata Power’s major learning platforms.
