Assam Accelerates Rooftop Solar Adoption Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Assam has made significant strides in rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with over 34,500 households now benefiting from the initiative. According to official figures, more than 34,100 rooftop solar installations have been completed in the state, supported by subsidies amounting to over ₹216 crore.

The program is aimed at providing free electricity to households while promoting sustainability and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources. Officials noted that the scheme is witnessing strong uptake across Assam, from the tea estates of Dibrugarh to the urban neighborhoods of Guwahati.

State authorities highlighted that the growing adoption of solar power not only delivers cost savings for consumers but also contributes to Assam’s broader renewable energy transition. The initiative reflects the government’s continued efforts to scale up clean energy deployment across India.

The rooftop solar rollout in Assam is part of a larger national campaign to promote renewable energy adoption, with more states expected to showcase their progress in the coming months.
