Serentica Renewables, a leading renewable energy company in India, has entered into a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to supply 100 MW of renewable power on a round-the-clock basis. This agreement represents India’s first “load-following” PPA, which has been designed in close coordination with SECI and state distribution companies (DISCOMs) to align with the seasonal electricity requirements of the offtakers.
Under the terms of the agreement, Serentica will be responsible for meeting 80 percent of the specified hourly demand each month. The supply commitments will vary depending on demand, ranging from 17 MW during periods of low consumption to 100 MW during peak demand hours. To meet these requirements effectively, the company plans to deploy a combination of wind and solar energy projects, supported by Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Akshay Hiranandani, CEO, Serentica Renewables, stated, “This agreement sets a new benchmark in India’s renewable energy journey. By signing the country’s first load-following PPA with SECI, we are demonstrating how innovation in renewable contracting can accelerate decarbonization while also strengthening the stability and resilience of the power grid.”
The project is expected to generate more than 400 GWh of clean energy annually. This innovative contract structure is an important development in India’s transition to sustainable energy, as it ensures dependable and flexible power delivery tailored to actual consumption patterns. It underscores the increasing role of advanced renewable energy solutions in addressing complex and evolving electricity demand across the country.
