Solaris Inc. is set to broaden its renewable energy footprint with upcoming projects that include solar with battery storage, floating solar, and waste-to-energy (WTE) initiatives, President and CEO Jose Alfonso Miras told Power Philippines. Miras confirmed that the company plans to participate in the next round of the Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP) to secure long-term supply contracts. “We have very concrete plans to participate in the next round of [GEAP] now,” he said, highlighting the program’s significance in providing financing certainty for renewable energy projects.

Unlike previous rounds, Solaris’ bids will extend beyond ground-mounted solar to include integrated battery storage, floating solar installations, and WTE projects. On the WTE front, Miras revealed Solaris is considering entering the sixth round of GEAP, which is expected to include such projects. The company aims to leverage synergies with its real estate business in Cavite for garbage collection and conversion into energy, with plans to expand across the Philippines once operational confidence is established.

Currently, Solaris’ portfolio includes 344 MWp of ground-mounted and rooftop solar projects, including 6.5 MWp of rooftop solar in Cavite and 58 MWp of ground-mounted solar in Iloilo, which is under construction and slated for commissioning by 2026. The company is also developing 90 MWp of floating solar in Bulacan and is evaluating battery storage investments to provide flexible capacity during non-solar hours.
