Sharjah Commissions 60 MWp SANA Solar Project to Power Oil and Gas Operations with Clean Energy

Sharjah has taken a significant step toward sustainable energy integration with the commissioning of SANA, a pioneering 60 MWp solar power project — the largest utility-scale solar plant in the emirate. The project marks a milestone as one of the first oil and gas facilities globally to be powered by on-site solar energy.

Developed by Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and EDF Group, the SANA project will supply renewable electricity directly to the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC)’s Sajaa Gas Complex. The system also feeds excess power into the grid, contributing to Sharjah’s clean energy transition.

The plant is expected to offset approximately 66,000 tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to the yearly electricity consumption of about 13,780 homes.

To ensure seamless performance and operational reliability, meteocontrol provided a customized monitoring and control solution, integrating local SCADA systems, blue’Log controllers, sensors, and VCOM cloud-based analytics. This setup enhances centralized monitoring, data-driven insights, and efficient O&M operations.

“The complexity of large-scale PV projects demands more than just reliable hardware. Through our collaboration, we successfully integrated solutions that ensure smooth commissioning and sustained performance for the SANA project,” said Sameer Hameed, Senior Engineering Manager at Emerge.

The success of the SANA project underscores how strategic partnerships and advanced technology are reshaping the energy landscape across the UAE, aligning with the country’s broader net-zero and diversification goals.
