Kalpa Power Private Limited, one of India’s leading solar energy management companies, has introduced WATTBANK, the country’s first productized Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The solution is designed for commercial and industrial businesses, helping them reduce their evening peak electricity bills by 50 percent from the very first day. WATTBANK works by charging itself during the day using solar energy and then automatically supplying power during high-cost evening peak hours. This model enables businesses with a 1 MW facility to achieve direct annual savings in the range of ₹80 lakhs to ₹1 crore.

The inaugural installation of WATTBANK, with a capacity of 130 kW, has been commissioned at Amar Business Zone in Baner, Pune. This installation is part of a broader integrated solar-powered system that allows the entire office premise to operate as a true net-zero facility. By deploying WATTBANK, Kalpa Power has introduced a fully integrated productized service model that includes energy audit, right-sized storage design, end-to-end implementation, continuous data visibility, and complete life cycle management.

Rounak Muthiyan, Founder and Director of Kalpa Power, stated, “Energy storage is the key missing link for scaling renewable energy in India. The BESS allows for power to be delivered when it’s required, not just when it’s available, directly tackling the variability of solar and ensuring our clients have 24/7 access to clean, reliable electricity. With WATTBANK, we are accelerating the clean energy transition while delivering immediate cost benefits to businesses.”

Built with a lifespan of 25 years, the system uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries, known for their high safety standards, durability, and efficiency. Beyond delivering direct cost savings, WATTBANK also helps balance fluctuations in electricity demand, improves overall grid stability, and reduces the risks of overloading.

With India aiming to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, battery energy storage is becoming a central element in providing reliable round-the-clock renewable power. Through WATTBANK, Kalpa Power is not only helping businesses optimize their energy costs but also supporting the country’s transition towards its net-zero emission targets.
