Tata Power, through its skilling arm Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), has expanded its green skilling initiatives in Tamil Nadu with the launch of two Solar Skill Centres of Excellence (SCoE) at Pettai (Tirunelveli) and Sattur (Virudhunagar). Established under a Public–Private Partnership with the Directorate of Employment & Training (DET), Government of Tamil Nadu, these centres aim to develop a steady pipeline of certified professionals to support the state’s fast-growing renewable energy sector—anchored by Tata Power’s 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Tirunelveli.

Tata Power acknowledged the Government of Tamil Nadu for its collaboration and support in establishing these facilities, which contribute to advancing green skill development and fostering sustainable livelihoods in the region. By focusing on training in renewable and future-ready energy technologies, the initiative supports both India’s green energy transition and Tamil Nadu’s leadership in clean-tech employment.

The centres were inaugurated by Dr. R. Sukumar, IAS, District Collector, Tirunelveli, and Mr. Parthasarathy Balaji, CEO – TP Solar, in the presence of Smt. K. Karpagam, Regional Joint Director (Training); Ms. Anupama Ratta, Chief – HR & ES&A (Renewables); and Mr. Alok Prasad, Head – TPSDI. These facilities will strengthen an integrated skilling-to-employment ecosystem, supporting project execution across Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states while preparing a skilled local workforce for roles in rooftop and utility-scale solar installation, operations, and maintenance.
