Recurrent Energy has brought its 200 MWh Fort Duncan Storage facility in Maverick County, Texas, into commercial operation. The standalone battery storage project began operations in June, ahead of the stateโ€™s peak summer demand, adding to Recurrent Energyโ€™s growing global portfolio, which now includes 6 GWh of operating battery energy storage capacity.

The project was financed through $183 million in project funding, with Burns & McDonnell serving as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor. Owned and operated by Recurrent Energy, Fort Duncan Storage will enhance grid reliability in South Texas and is expected to generate millions of dollars in local tax revenue to support community services. Ismael Guerrero, CEO of Recurrent Energy, said: โ€œThe completion of Fort Duncan Storage highlights our long-term commitment to Texas, one of the most important and dynamic energy markets in the world. Battery storage plays a critical role in strengthening grid reliability and providing flexible power when it is needed most, while also creating significant economic benefits for local communities.โ€ย
