The Sustainability and Innovation Centre of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced the graduation of the fifth batch of its CleanTech Youth Programme, an initiative aimed at equipping young people with the skills and knowledge to lead innovation in clean energy and sustainability. With this cohort, a total of 117 participants have completed the programme, many of whom are now engaged in research projects and academic pursuits in renewable energy and sustainable development.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said the programme reflects the UAE’s commitment to preparing youth to drive sustainable growth. “Investing in young people is the best investment for a sustainable future based on knowledge and innovation. The CleanTech Youth Programme supports our efforts to empower youth as a key driver of innovation and prepare them to lead the sustainable development process,” he said. Al Tayer added that the initiative aligns with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, while reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global sustainability hub.
Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, described the programme as an integrated platform for developing youth capabilities in renewable energy, innovation and sustainable development. He noted that it also enhances the role of DEWA’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre as a bridge between youth, academia and industry to drive low-carbon development.
The fifth cycle of the programme included interactive workshops, field visits and practical training at the Sustainability and Innovation Centre. Participants were introduced to key topics such as clean technologies, energy efficiency, green hydrogen and sustainability leadership, helping them build technical expertise and a deeper understanding of emerging energy solutions.
