Sweden has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Vietnam’s green and just energy transition, marking a new phase of bilateral cooperation focused on technology, investment, and policy development in clean energy.

During an official meeting held on November 4, 2025, Nguyen Hoang Long, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, met with Sara Modig, State Secretary to the Swedish Minister for Climate and Enterprise. The discussions centered on Sweden’s readiness to assist Vietnam in achieving its net-zero goals through renewable energy development, grid modernization, and sustainable technology transfer.

Both sides emphasized the importance of building a resilient, low-carbon economy that ensures energy security while promoting equitable growth. Sweden highlighted opportunities for collaboration across key sectors, including offshore wind power, smart grids, small modular reactors (SMRs), and rare-earth resource cooperation.

Swedish enterprises such as Hitachi Energy Vietnam, Comsys, and Unipower were recognized as potential industry partners capable of contributing advanced energy solutions to Vietnam’s transition.

The talks also underscored Vietnam’s strong economic momentum—projected at around 8% GDP growth in 2025—and the government’s ongoing commitment to achieving its sustainable development and green industrialization goals.

To further strengthen bilateral engagement, both nations announced plans for an upcoming event titled “Energy and the Digital World: Modernizing Vietnam’s Power Infrastructure for a Sustainable Future,” scheduled for December 2025. The event will serve as a platform for policymakers, technology providers, and businesses to exchange knowledge and foster partnerships for cleaner and more efficient energy systems.

The collaboration reflects Sweden’s long-standing support for Vietnam’s energy transformation, aligning with the principles of a just transition—ensuring that clean energy progress benefits all communities, safeguards livelihoods, and promotes inclusive growth.
