As global leaders gather in Belém for the landmark COP30 negotiations, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) will hold an official UNFCCC Press Conference on Saturday, 15 November 2025. The event will highlight how India’s industries are accelerating climate action and shaping pathways toward a net-zero future. The press conference, titled Accelerating India’s Industry-Led Climate Action for a Net-Zero Future, will convene experts from climate science, policymaking, sustainable finance, global coalitions, and corporate leadership. Together, they will discuss how collaboration across sectors is essential for achieving deep decarbonization and building long-term climate resilience.
India’s growing role on the world stage—marked by strong economic growth, pragmatic diplomacy and assertive climate leadership—has set the tone for the country’s engagement at COP30. As both a rapidly developing economy and a vocal advocate for global sustainability, India brings a narrative centered on innovation, inclusivity, and shared climate responsibility. TERI has been at the forefront of advancing this collaborative vision. One of its key initiatives, the Industry Charter for Near Zero Emissions Ambition by 2050, encourages industries to voluntarily commit to decarbonization and adopt clean technologies.
Companies that sign the Charter aim to become leaders in low- or zero-carbon practices, helping create momentum for wider industrial participation in India’s net-zero transition. TERI’s efforts are further strengthened through its partnerships with international groups such as the We Mean Business Coalition, the Global Cement and Concrete Association, and the Long Duration Energy Storage Council. Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General of TERI, emphasized that technology, research and collaboration must guide India’s shift toward cleaner energy, resource efficiency and circular economic models. She stressed that achieving climate goals requires stronger links between policy and science, the scaling up of innovative solutions, and greater international cooperation.
According to her, COP30 will serve as a platform to bring together global and Indian business leaders to discuss the urgent need for bold climate action. Additional perspectives will be offered by Mr. Dipak Dasgupta, Distinguished Fellow at TERI, and Mr. Arupendra Nath Mullick, Vice President of the TERI Council for Business Sustainability. They will speak about the rising momentum behind private-sector collaboration, climate finance mechanisms and the alignment of policy frameworks to strengthen India’s sustainable development agenda.
Mr. Dasgupta noted that COP30 discussions must focus on practical progress. He highlighted the need for a “Forever Fund” to protect the Amazon and other vital tropical forests, a climate finance roadmap linking Baku to Belém, innovative tools like multilateral sovereign guarantee funds, ambitious but achievable national commitments and more support for climate adaptation. He affirmed that TERI is supporting these priorities in partnership with Brazil and other stakeholders. Mr. Mullick added that COP30 arrives a decade after the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement—a moment that calls for renewed dedication. He pointed out that India is increasingly shaping the global climate narrative, especially for the Global South.
He emphasized that strong partnerships, particularly those involving the private sector, are essential for turning climate ambitions into measurable outcomes. Through initiatives like the Industry Charter, TERI is demonstrating how sustained engagement between public and private stakeholders can produce real solutions and advance global climate commitments. Through its participation at COP30, TERI aims to strengthen dialogue on innovative climate-finance approaches and showcase the vital role that strategic partnerships with businesses can play in scaling climate solutions. Its goal is to advance climate action that reflects the diversity of sectors, communities and regions involved in the transition to a sustainable future.
