ACCIONA Energía has secured a 20-year power supply contract in the Philippines for the entire output of two renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 281MW. The contract was awarded through Round 4 of the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP), which aims to accelerate the country’s shift toward cleaner energy sources.
The awarded projects include the Kalayaan 2 wind farm in Laguna, with a capacity of 101MW. This project is already under construction and is expected to contribute significantly to the region’s renewable power generation. The second project is the Daanbantayan solar plant in Cebu, with a capacity of 180MWp. Construction for this solar facility is scheduled to begin before the end of 2025. Securing this long-term contract provides financial certainty for both projects and ensures that the clean energy they produce will support the Philippines in meeting its renewable energy goals while supplying stable and reliable electricity to consumers.
ACCIONA Energía’s commitment to the Philippines extends beyond these two developments. The company currently has a pipeline of more than 2GW of renewable projects under various stages of development in the country. It recently strengthened its presence in Southeast Asia by reorganizing regional partnerships, especially in the Philippines and Thailand, where it holds strong portfolios and plans further expansion in the coming years.
ACCIONA has been active in the Philippines since 2016 through its water and infrastructure divisions. Over the years, it has delivered several major projects, including the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), the Putatan II Water Treatment Plant, and the Laguna Lake Water Treatment Plant. These projects have contributed to improving transportation and water access in various regions of the country.
Alongside its commercial activities, ACCIONA also works to improve quality of life in underserved areas through its foundation, acciona.org. Since 2021, the foundation has been providing electricity services to rural communities that previously lacked access to the power grid. Through partnerships with the Ayala Foundation and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development, acciona.org has supported around 3,500 households, small businesses, and community facilities, helping bridge the energy access gap in remote regions of the Philippines.
