Potentia Energy has announced a major milestone for the Tallawang Solar Hybrid project, which has now received environmental approval from the Commonwealth Government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act). Importantly, the project was approved without any conditions under the Act, reflecting the strength and completeness of its planning and environmental assessments.

This approval is the result of detailed studies, careful project design, and continued consultation with community members, landholders, and other stakeholders. It marks a significant step forward for Tallawang, one of the central developments within the New South Wales Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone. The Tallawang Solar Hybrid project will include a 500 MW solar farm paired with a 500 MW/1000 MWh DC-coupled energy storage system, along with the necessary supporting infrastructure.

Together, these components will help deliver reliable renewable energy at scale. Once fully operational, Tallawang will produce enough clean electricity to power more than 250,000 homes across New South Wales each year. This project not only supports the state’s transition toward a cleaner energy future but also strengthens the region’s position as a key hub for large-scale renewable development.
