Sunmaxx has received a major order for 1,300 photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) hybrid modules from a medium-sized company in Baden-Württemberg. These modules will be used to build a large PVT system designed to fully decarbonize the company’s site. The project serves as another strong example of how Sunmaxx’s technology is enabling climate-neutral industrial operations.

As part of the transformation, the company will retire its existing 800 kW oil-based heating system. It will be replaced with a brine-to-water heat pump integrated into a new energy setup built around Sunmaxx’s PVT modules. The system also includes a borehole field that functions as a seasonal heat storage unit. The PVT modules will generate both heat and electricity at the same time: the heat will support the heat pump, while excess heat produced during the warmer months will be stored underground and later used in winter for space heating. The electricity generated by the modules will power the heat pump and help meet other electrical demands within the facility.

By implementing this system, the company will eliminate its reliance on oil heating entirely. This shift will lead to a significant cut in CO₂ emissions and protect the company from the rising and unpredictable costs of fossil fuels. In addition, it will benefit from energy costs of less than ten cents per kilowatt-hour, ensuring long-term price stability because renewable power and heat are among the most cost-efficient energy sources available.

Dr. Wilhelm Stein, CEO of Sunmaxx, stated that this order further strengthens the company’s role as a leader in PVT technology. He highlighted that Sunmaxx’s hybrid modules are becoming central components of modern industrial energy systems, supplying both electricity and heat while supporting a transition toward fully renewable energy solutions.

The project also demonstrates the increasing relevance of PVT systems in decarbonizing industrial heat supply. Thanks to Sunmaxx’s industrial-scale production capabilities, even large installations can be deployed quickly and at a competitive cost. With more than 500 employees, the client’s site is poised to become one of the world’s largest PVT projects completed so far, marking an important step forward for renewable energy adoption in industry.
