Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the government is working towards opening the nuclear energy sector for private participation. He said that reforms are being expanded to include more strategic and technology-driven areas, similar to what has been done in the space sector.
He explained that allowing private companies to participate in the nuclear industry will strengthen India’s energy security and technological leadership. According to him, creating a strong role for private players will open opportunities in small modular reactors, advanced reactor systems, and new forms of nuclear innovation. The development is expected to support the country’s growing clean energy needs and accelerate technology advancement.
Prime Minister Modi also spoke about the rapid progress India has made in the space sector in recent years. He stated that India has become an attractive destination for global investors and that several major reforms have helped build a cooperative and innovation-focused ecosystem. By opening the space industry to private enterprises, the government has enabled startups and private organizations to work closely with national research institutions. This collaboration, he said, is helping develop advanced technologies and commercial space capabilities.
He mentioned that the global space economy is expected to grow significantly and that the growth will create new opportunities for young professionals in India. Over the past six to seven years, India has transformed its space sector into one of the most vibrant and innovation-based environments. It now includes more than 300 space startups working on a wide range of technologies and services.
