The Smart Energy Council has welcomed the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s (ARENA) commitment of up to $151 million to support the Hunter Valley Solar Foundry, a major manufacturing initiative expected to produce 500 MW of Australian-made solar modules annually and boost the nation’s renewable energy supply chain resilience.
The announcement was attended by the Council’s Chief Strategy Officer, Nigel Morris, who emphasized the significance of expanding domestic solar manufacturing. “There’s something truly powerful about seeing another Australian solar factory come to life — local capability growing, local jobs growing, and home-grown technology ready to compete globally,” he said.
The project, led by Sunman Energy, will focus on the production of lightweight, advanced composite solar modules that highlight Australia’s innovation in solar technology. According to industry stakeholders, initiatives of this kind not only increase manufacturing capacity but also support the broader goal of building a sovereign and future-ready clean energy industry.
The Smart Energy Council also acknowledged ARENA and the Solar Sunshot program for their continued support in advancing Australia’s renewable manufacturing landscape.
