Farmers opting to install solar energy systems on their fields will now receive substantial financial support, with subsidies reaching up to 90% under government schemes. The initiative aims to empower farmers to generate their own electricity and reduce dependence on diesel and grid supply.

According to officials, both the Central and State governments are jointly offering subsidies to encourage agricultural solar adoption. Farmers are required to contribute only 10% of the project cost, while the remaining amount will be covered through government support.

Deputy Director of Agriculture, Ramnath Dubey, stated that the scheme has been launched across the district to help farmers combat rising power shortages. Under the PM Kusum Yojana (Component-B) and the State Solar Energy Policy 2022, farmers can install standalone solar pumps and hybrid systems to operate tubewells and other farm equipment.

As per the guidelines, a 3 HP solar pump costing around โ‚น2.39 lakh will be subsidized significantly, with the Central government offering โ‚น71,700 and the State government providing โ‚น1,43,400, leaving the farmer to pay only โ‚น23,900.

For higher-capacity pumps, such as 5 HP and 7.5 HP units, subsidies will proportionally increase. For example:

  • A 5 HP system costing โ‚น3,93,250 will include a farmer contribution of โ‚น39,325.
  • A 7.5 HP system costing โ‚น5,48,000 will require a farmer share of โ‚น54,800.

The schemes also cover 10 HP systems, providing substantial relief to farmers struggling with irrigation costs during power shortages.

Officials added that farmers can now apply directly at the District Agriculture Office or online under the PM Kusum portal. The department has urged eligible farmers to take advantage of the scheme to ensure reliable, low-cost, and sustainable irrigation.
